So let's chat about what the watch does. The default view of the dial (see above) has a centrally mounted seconds hand and retrograde minute hands. The hours are told via the upper subsidiary dial. This is a variation on the regulator style dial, but with a retrograde hand. The lower part of the dial is a date indicator. Good luck reading that one. Over the date dial is a transparent bridge made out of synthetic sapphire. When you get bored of this, you can transform the watch into chronograph mode.

IWC was obviously on my radar before the results of that poll, but it was a fascinating look into the perception of (mostly American) luxury blog readers. One of your fellow readers recently commented on an IWC related article that IWC watches are well-made, nicely designed, but over-priced. A quick response via another fellow reader indicated a wise observation. If a brand is doing well, selling its products, and experiencing high demand, the amount it asks for its products isn’t too high — especially if it is getting that amount. That sort of halted the topic, and I thought it was a good message about the luxury industry overall. Luxury goods are easy to attack. It is easy to complain about price, image, and snobbiness. What is more impressive is when luxury brands are defended. Such conduct shows that the price, image, and possible snobbiness don’t actually result in bad sentiment - in that particular case. I’m making a general statement about the luxury industry and many different types of products, but in the context of IWC, it interesting to see fans ‘ring in’ to communicate their own personal high-view of the brand and what they sell.

Casio Pathfinder PAW-5000 Watch Review Wrist Time Reviews That is, while the watches are fantastically functional, they ooze a bit of "dork." I am a proud owner of many a Pathfinder watches, and love the looks, feel, and utility they provide - but admit it isn't a watch I'd bring along a wingman on a date. Better for activities, being outdoors, and wanting to survive the perils of nature. Social gatherings demand a bit more tact when it comes to your digital aura.

Who wears a watch like this? Well the avant garde type with a penchant for the classic things in life. This is retro weird. An uncommon testament to things softly different with a traditional look to them. There are a lot of art deco elements to the design, as well as an architectural slant to the design. As you can see, the watch makes a bold statement on the wrist, even more so than looking at it alone. Anyone from a seasoned banker to a classic car buff can sport a watch like this with ease. The design to me is mature, suitable for people wanting to look their age nicely. In my opinion, the Pierre DeRoche GrandCliff is a better "youthful" watch. So for the many, many sport watches out there, I am glad to see a contrasting watch with a less serious nod to the stately lifestyle as is the case with the SplitRock. Price is about 12,500 Swiss Francs. If you want one, you'll have to contact Pierre DeRoche directly as there are no official US distributors for the brand at this time.

Porsche Design is upping the size of the P6530 watch to modern measures at 44mm wide. Of course the look of the watch is more or less the same, as is the dial. The watch is in titanium, like back when titanium was truly exotic. The cool smooth lines on the bead-blasted case remind me of how titanium is used best. These days we have techniques to polish up titanium and make it look all fancy-like. Little do most people know that you stare at polished titanium the wrong way and it scratches. Light and strong don't necessarily mean scratch resistant. A bead-blasted case will accept wear and tear more gracefully. The original watch that this Heritage P6530 is based on was actually the world's first titanium chronograph watch when it was released in 1980, and made by IWC.

At its debut, the Calibre 101 set the record for the world’s smallest movement and 81 years later in 2010, it still holds this honor [Ed. Note: check out another article here discussing the life of the Calibre 101 movement]. When you think about all the patents and record-breaking feats announced every year in the world of horology, holding this distinction for such a long time is even more remarkable.

In all, a fascinating design. I would totally wear one if Sinn added at least 4 more centimeters to the case size. Then again, maybe a "jumbo" version will come out at some point. The watch is likely sort of an experiment. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA 2824-2 automatic movement. This watch is limited to just 300 pieces. Making it a rare limited edition Sinn that isn't based on another model with just a few small changes. The closest thing that I can compare it to is the Fortis Square. How much will each of these limited edition Model 902 watches cost? Not sure, but give the movement and Sinn's other prices, I would say in the ,500 - ,000 range most likely. UPDATE: Looks like it will go for 1,300 euros.

For 2010 the Dual Tow (DualTow, not ever sure about it being one or two words), gets the "NightEagle" treatment. A dark case, new style on the rubber belt indicators, and tinted sapphire bridges over the dial. Essentially, there are sapphire plates (cut to look like parts of a stealth aircraft) sandwiched over the movement and the top sapphire crystal. The bridges have a purplish tint to them, and cover most of the movement (that was exposed in the standard Dual Tow watch). Time is read in the open sections over the belts. You need to look a bit closely to read the time, bu you can understand it pretty easily as it is digital. The font on the rubber belts now looks like that on a digital LCD screen - part of Claret's vision of combing modern pieces of technology and convenience with luxury mechanical watch making.

This duo is known as the Ananta Double Retrograde Automatic, and the Ananta Multi-Hand Automatic. The watches have a more conservative and mainstream look than the very sporty Automatic Chronograph model or the Spring Drive models. This is "your dad's" Ananta watch. This is not a bad thing at all, and proves that the unique katana sword theme can lend it self to a more subdued look as well. Instead of the marker rich tachymeter scale on the bezel, these bezels are now polished and in black or brushed steel. Dials are either black or silvered, and the watches have either the steel bracelets (that I totally love), or black crocodile straps. It is a good time to remind you that the steel bracelets and crafted from an interesting style of cut and polished steel links with a lovely finish to them. The crocodile straps have push button deployment clasps. For more images of the steel bracelet you can check out the the link above to the Ananta Spring Drive article.
